About Me

My name is Kie. I believe in the power of social media to connect people and facilitate change in our world. I’m a bit of a nerd, but I like to go on adventures, especially when geology is involved. Oh, I guess that makes me a nerd still. I’m a tom boy who likes pretty things. I’m married and don’t have any children but I love to work with other people’s kids in the outdoors. I think that spending time outdoors is one of the most powerful experiences kids and adults alike can have. I try to do it as much as possible. I’m working on having a big impact on the world in some ways, and a small one in other ways. I care a lot about sustainability. I am a semi-professional photographer and graphic designer, and I am a serious cook. I once worked in a baby wipes factory and toured as a fiddler in an Americana band. I feel happier when I have a lot of plants around me. My favorite cheese is cambozola and my favorite dinosaur is the triceratops.

Here are some topics I will probably explore and tackle:

Photography. Teaching experiences/theory/ridiculous things kids say and do. Fly fishing/tying. Gardening/food. Hiking/backpacking/skiing/ general adventuring. Graphic design/architecture/furniture design. Music. Social media/human communication. Innovations. Oddities. Cooking/baking/nutrition. Sustainability/local foods/alternative energy. Cultures/travel. Science/plants/trees/bugs/animals, etc. Collage/sewing/whimsy. Poetry/writing.

Photography is of special interest to me and I have been serious about it for about 13 years now. You can see some of my recent work on the Flick sidebar on the right. All photos I post on my blog are original work. The blurry ones are posted directly from my phone and the others were shot on a Nikon D-90 and edited minimally in Photoshop.

Also, I recently moved to Taos, NM, a very interesting, enchanting, and eclectic place to live. Truly. I’ve decided to make Taos my home, and as I journey through the process of becoming a part of this corner of the world, I will share some of the things that make this place unique/bizarre/fascinating. The photo above was taken in New Mexico near Abiquiu on the way to Ghost Ranch where famous artist Georgia O’Keeffe lived and worked.

You might see some guest appearances and posts from “the husband”, as he shall be called on this blog.
